The collapse of the State of Israel and its surrender, left about thirteen former Israeli ships in the Mediterranean Sea, with tens of thousands of children of different ages on their decks. The majority of them were orphans, without their even being aware of it. The Turkish government, which out of the goodness of its heart provided a temporary shelter for the children, succumbed to the pressure of the entire Islamic world and announced that it was not intending to permanently house the children. "These children," thus the spokesman for the Turkish government, "can stay in Turkey for a fixed period of time, until the United Nations and Red Cross institutions decide what to do in the matter". The Israeli ships were allowed access to the ports in Turkey, however, the children and the medical crews and others who were on the ships were forbidden to disembark. Turkish medical teams boarded the ships and cared for the patients. Food was brought to the ships, however the children were left below decks, and only twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon, were they allowed to go up in groups onto the deck, where the masses of children romped or stood and gazed at the view of the port. Then the television crews would surround the large ship in helicopters, or in boats, in order to record the full tragedy from up close. The United States Jewry was recruited in a huge public relations campaign, and requested the United States to permit these children, the future of the State of Israel, to enter its borders, so that the Jewish citizens of the United States could adopt them. Marwan Barghouti, President of the State of Palestine, firmly demanded that the ships, which were the property of the State of Palestine, be returned from Turkey. The Turkish ambassador was even summoned in the dead of night to Marwan Barghouti's office in Jerusalem. As for the return of the children, Barghouti explained that he would not object if there would be those who would take the children under their auspices, but if that was impossible, they would re-absorb the children. "We are not barbarians", added Barghouti. The world press became pro-Jewish and extensively reviewed the human tragedy. The press labeled these ships "Exodus 2010". Many of the senior world press bemoaned the disappearance of Israel from the map of the world, and in flattering articles, reviewed the short history of the Israeli State, from the circumstances which led to its establishment, through the wars which the young country had to fight, the amazing technological achievements, and ending in the last war, in which Israel was destroyed. For the first time there were also articles describing the acts of horror perpetuated by the Palestinians against the poor Israeli refugees. The Dutch government hastily declared that it would absorb 200 Israeli children, as a humanitarian gesture to the lost State of Israel. Jewish families in Holland would absorb these children. In their wake, the governments of Britain, Sweden, Germany and Spain also declared their willingness to absorb a quota of children in their countries. On that same day, the United States President announced the absorption of most of these children, especially since many American families had already declared their willingness to bear the burden of adopting the children. The Jewish lobby in the United States simply squashed any refusal or argument by the United States government, forcing it to raise a clear voice on the subject. Huge demonstrations of French Jews against the excessive passiveness of their government were firmly and violently quelled by the Paris police, causing street fights to break out on the streets of Paris between the angry Jews and the French policemen. The damage sustained by Paris's stores and tourism was enormous. The French Prime Minister said "We express our deep shock from the human tragedy which is unfolding before us. Once again it is proven that history always repeats the rule: woe to the conquered." That's all folks |
